that's great that your cats are spayed and neutered -- such an important thing to do, and please always encourage your friends and family to spay and neuter their pets. way too many cats and dogs end up unwanted. it's so sad. have you ever watched the movie EARTHLINGS? you really should -- it does a great job with talking about the issues with the overpopulation of dogs and cats, as well as lots of other animal issues that are very important to be aware of. i'd recommend watching it yourself and also sharing it with other people. it's a really great film, and is even narrated by joaquin phoenix. you can watch it for free online through google at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=... you don't really have to like vegetables to be vegetarian. they're healthy and you should eat them, but not all vegetarians like them or even eat very many of them. my best friend is vegan and he prefers sugary foods to any vegetable. have you looked at our journal on "tips for parents"? i know that it says parents, but it has info that i think you may find helpful for ways to deal with your family eating meat, as well as to help you think about food options.

i understand what you mean -- it can be hard to know what to do to help animals. there are so many out there that you can do things to help, everything from making sure to spay and neuter pets to volunteering at a sanctuary to being vegetarian or vegan. being veg or vegan is one of the best things you can do for animals. far more animals are killed for food than for anything else, but being veg saves the lives of an estimated 100 animals a year! pretty amazing way to be able to help animals, simply by the food choices that you make. on a daily basis, you can literally be saving lives. and since you blieve that raising and killing animals for food is wrong, it seems like being vegetarian would give you a way for your lifestyle to reflect your beliefs and show the world how much you care about animals. have you tried being veg before? is there a reason you're not?
